On the evening of June 15, 1863, Confederate Brig. Gen. Albert Jenkins’ cavalry brigade crossed the Maryland-Pennsylvania border, and by 11:30pm, they rode into the streets of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania with sabres and pistols drawn. They met no organized resistance, and the next day they set about gathering supplies and paying for provisions with worthless Confederate currency.
