Yesterday, Emerging Civil War generously published an article of mine discussing the benefits and drawbacks of using artificial intelligence tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT to enhance photographs and illustrations from the American Civil War.

Emerging Civil War serves as a public history-oriented platform for sharing original scholarship related to the American Civil War. They publish historical research, memory studies, travelogues, personal narratives, essays, book reviews, and photography. Journalistic-style coverage of current Civil War-related events and the Civil War in pop culture are also included.

I’m not sure exactly where my article fits in, but their editorial board was encouraging and I greatly appreciate the opportunity. I’ve read articles at their blog here and there over the years, and they are among the most active Civil War sites on the Internet.

Followers of my blog know how excited I am about the possibilities of AI, as long as you fully understand and try to mitigate the pitfalls and drawbacks. It can be a rewarding, yet frustrating experience. Check out my article here:
